I began working on the “Creative Spaces” series in New York in January 2017.

As a music photographer and concert goer, I was used to seeing artists perform, whether on stage or online through social media, and my relationship to the artist and the music was filtered through the presence I saw performing. Through this series, I wanted to draw back the curtain and show what happens behind the stage.

In many ways, this project allowed me to break through the separation between the private and public sphere. It opened the door to the intimate worlds where most do not gain entry. In the spaces between the four walls, I was lucky to hear new songs that had just been written and recordings that were taking place, and in some cases, during the course of the documentary session, I was a witness to the strike of inspiration for a new song. These sessions are some of my most cherished experiences.
